I went up to the mountain Because you asked me to Up over the clouds To where the sky was blue I could see all around me Everywhere I could see all around
me Everywhere
Sometimes I feel like I've never been nothing but tired And I'll be walking Till
the day I expire Sometimes I lay down No more can I do But then I go on again Because you ask me to
Some days I look down Afraid I will fall And though the sun shines I see nothing at all Then I
hear your sweet voice, oh Oh, come and then go, come and then go Telling me softly You love me so
The peaceful valley Just over the mountain The peaceful valley Few come to know I may never get there Ever in this lifetime But sooner or later It's there I will go Sooner or later It's there I will go ~Patty Griffin Up to the Mountain A tune inspired by Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King,
Jr.
I've been working as a therapist at Seasons Recovery Center in Malibu for a good amount of this past year in the
capacity of Spiritual Counsel. When I hear this song it reminds me of some the clients who have passed
through. It has been such a privilege to be a part of the process and witness the miracles that they've created with
their lives. I have seen many climb the mountain of recovery and get to the peaceful valley where they lives their lives with
intention, purpose, happiness and peace. My admiration for each of you, I acknowledge the effort that it has
taken and still takes each and every day.
My prayer is that everyone with any challenge of addiction may recognize
their own sweet voice within and become aware of the strength, courage, faith and conviction that already resides
within them.
On this day of celebration for Martin Luther King Jr. I've borrowed some of his quotes to share
with anyone who has had a challenge with any sort of addiction or crisis in their life. May you find peace, inspiration and
hope in his powerful words.
"Courage is the power of the mind to overcome fear.
"We
must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.
"Faith is taking the
first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.
"But I know somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars."
